The Hell with Rain

Rainouts suck — there’s no other way to put it. But if there’s any consolation, the guys back in Mooresville, N.C., got to see all the Monday action unfold leading up to Brian Vickers’ 11th-place finish in the Auto Club 500.

High above the main floor in Red Bull Racing Team’s shop hangs a 52-inch flat-screen TV, which was perfect for a day like today. A couple of weeks ago, there was a group of men who knew a lot about cable and TVs hovering around race cars. They hung it, connected all the wires and now a generous TV keeps the shop guys in tune with the at-track guys.

Half of those interested hung around chassis Nos. 20 and 23, looking above. The rest made their way into the break room. Either way, they saw Red Bull Racing Team’s No. 83 post an 11th-place finish.

Moments later, there were a few high-fives and the occasional chest bump, but it was back to work. After all, Sin City is waiting.

The 11th place finish was worth the wait. Great job today (and last night) to the Brian and the #83 crew. The points are looking good too!!! Good luck in Las Vegas. Hope both Red Bull cars get in.

How come Brian's winnings of $383,945 are less than everyones' up to 26th place Paul Menard? Every driver in 12th-25th in the 2008 Official Driver Standings has more winnings this season than Brian. Can someone explain how this works?

I think it is because of contingency sponsors. If you notice the Red Bull cars have only 3 contingency sponsors while most other cars have a bunch of contingency sponsors.

On a side note does anyone know what the decal was on the C Pillar of BV's car?

It seems the #83 gets no respect in my opinion. Almost no mention as to the terrific job the team did coming from 39th to finish 11th. Kudos to Kenny Wallace who gave a shout out to BV on Victory Lane last night on Speed. USG best finish award went to Shrub finishing 18 spots higher then he started. No team did as well as the #83.
Oh well I guess its best that they slide under the radar at this point. Once their in the top 35 and possibly stay in the top 12 for the championship, then they’ll be talking!!!

I know a lot of people are down on the 84 right now, but I'm expecting them to have an awesome season. They'll be in the race this weekend. I seriously expect them to be well in the top 35 at the end of the year, and for BV to make the chase.

I'd trade all that for a few race wins, though.
