And So The Rains Came Down...
…sending the 84 crew packing from California Speedway. Lots of descriptive words were flying through the hauler to express just how it feels to be robbed of the opportunity to qualify the Red Bull Toyota into Sunday’s race. Probably the most appropriate words we can share would be “brutal,” “painful,” and “unbelievable.” NASCAR rain-out rules had the 84 crew missing out by just 1 spot. So close, but no dice. On the bright side – NASCAR rules luckily blessed the 83 crew into the race so they can build on their successful race runs. Tune in Sunday on FOX at 3:30 PM (EST) to cheer on BV and the 83 Bull Crew.

Matador, the race is on Fox not ESPN. Sucks that AJ didn't make it. Hopefully Vegas is better for the 84 Red Bull Racing team.
Man I feel so bad for AJ. He can't catch a freaking break, second time that he's missed out by 1 spot. Daytona and now Cali. Hopefully Vegas will be better for team 84. Brian is going to kick ass sunday!! Yeehaw, get em BV!!
I thought the race was on at 3:30 on FOX..hmmmm
GOOD LUCK BV AND THE RED BULL CREW!!!!!
at least its consistant this year....and that show car program is kick a$$! who runs that thing?? how cool?!!
I would suggest NASCAR take a very serious look at how their top 35 and rainout of qualifying affects those out of the top 35 in driver points.
I find it very hard to believe that an hour could not be found in today's schedule that would allow only those out of the top 35 to time trial. It would give them an equal chance to fill out the top 43 spots and some very needed track time. Additionally, it would provide some exposure for the sponsors of these cars who could very easily walk away because their products aren't being viewed.
NASCAR needs to wake up and look at the total picture.
And, why are there two past champion spots being allowed?
I know it sucks that AJ didn’t have the opportunity to qualify for the race. Not making the first two races hurts the 84 team when it comes to the top 35 rule after race #5. However I’m looking at the cup being half full. BV is in the race and currently he is sitting in the top 12 in points. He needs a decent finish this week and hopefully the 83 team will be in the top 35 by the 6th race. If this happens and RBRT works together this could help both teams for the remainder of the season. One team could work on qualifying set ups and the other race trim during practice. If they share info it could help AJ get into the races and do well once he’s in. BV needs to do everything to stay in the top 35. The fact that AJ is in this position is not a reflection of this team; it’s just bad luck.
Good luck BV and the 83 team on Sunday!!!
joad they are actually using 3 past champion prov. this weekend. Its a joke and if some how there were 8 past champs outside of the top 35 they would be the only ones in the race which is just stupid.
They are not using 3 past champs. Busch and Jarrett make it in on points they have from this season already. The 21 is the only past champ.
My bad, they are using 3 past champs. but they really don't need to because both the #2 and the #44 would have made it with the new Nascar rainout policy.
This is Joad--can't get my password to work: just to clarify my earlier comment: I firmly believe after canceling qualifying for rain, NASCAR should find an hour in the next available days schedule to allow JUST those outside the top 35 to make qualifying runs. Then, fill out from 36 to 42 based on their speed. If they have to have a past champions provisional, then that could still be spot 43. At least the group would have a chance to qualify and would earn the right to be in the race--rather than some made up list of critria.
Jayski has it listed this way:
36 Kurt Busch 2007 race winner
37 Dale Jarrett Past Champ Prov 1999
38 Bill Elliott Past Champ Prov 1988
39 Brian Vickers 13th in 2008 owners pts
40 David Reutimann 18th
41 Michael Waltrip 28th
42 John Andretti 1 attempt 40th in 2008 owners pts
43 Joe Nemechek 1, 41st
Shouldn’t BV start 37th behind Busch?
For anyone interested AJ is in the truck race now. They just said on FOX that he is in a truck for Brandon Witt, I think.
I'm glad that BV is in, but mad that AJ didn't get a chance. Also hate that BV didn't get many laps in practice. good luck BV !
Things look very for the #83 team. They really needed more time to practice. I hope we get the race in today.
btw off-topic: does anyone know what kind of Red Bull t-shirts and hoodies they're selling at the merch-trailer? I have a friend going to the Vegas race next week and I want him to get me some RBRT stuff. I have 0 RBRT merch at the moment. So I'd really appreciate it if anyone has some recommendation.
:)
***things look very bad for the #83 team***
but w/e. let's go get another solid finish!
lol, typo.
They only had 6 laps of practice so I wouldn't be to worried, the test times were better. Hopefully they will throw a competition caution around lap 25 or 30 so they can work on the cars. Just as long as BV stays on the lead lap till the first pit stop we should be in good shape. Good luck today BV and the whole 83 RBRT crew!
Thanks for your good vibes Curt! Everyone is in the same position...rbrt is in the race! Good luck team 83
I took some pictures of the merchandise last week at Daytona-
go to my photo album- www.flickr.com/photos/kleskohart
and you will be able to find a few pictures of the merchandise hauler.
much thanks, redbullfan83! i appreciate it. the new merch looks very sweet. i know what i want for sure.. i want EVERYTHING. =)
it's red flagged at the moment. it seems like the #83 is improving on the handling. BV did an excellent job avoiding Sorenson.
Curt-
I know, I wanted everything, too, but I had to control myself:)
As you saw I got the brown 83 shirt with the wings and then I also got a small die-cast and a sticker sheet. Didn't feel like shelling out the money for the diecast just yet:) maybe July or Oct:)
