Rain, Rain, Go Away...

It is currently raining at California Speedway... AJ and the rest of the trucks were able to get in all but 20 minutes of their 2 1/2 hour truck practice before the rain started, though. AJ worked his way up to 17th on the speed charts in the 00 truck.

Let's hope the rain holds out tomorrow so TRB will have a chance to qualify on time (Cup qualifying 3:10 pm PST Friday). If it were to rain out Cup qualifying, Brian would be guaranteed a spot as a NNCS race winner in 2006... but AJ would be out of luck.

The Friday weather forcast in Fontana, CA calls for a 30% chance of rain early in the morning with the skies clearing up by the afternoon. Let's hope the racing gods are on our side this week!

What does NCCS

I think NCCS may be a typo for NNCS (NASCAR Nextel Cup Series).

Hopefully TRB will be able to show a bit of speed and get both the 83 and 84 into the show.

If all of the teams are able to post a time without being rained out, the previsional would be offered to the most recent race winner that would need it. (if my memorey serves me correctly) Hopefully it will be sunny so that both teams have a chance to race on sunday. With any luck, we'll have a better draw for Qualifying this time around. First is only good for the checkered flag on sunday!!

If all teams are able to post a timed lap, the only provisional available would be for the most recent past champion not timed into the race (Dale Jarrett, #44 UPS Toyota is the only driver that fits this description; Bill Elliott has been replaced by John Andretti). If Jarrett were to time into the race, the 43rd starting spot would be awarded to the fastest driver who would have otherwise missed the race.

The top 35 in owners points (currently from the 2006 season; after the 5th race, the 2007 season) are locked into every race, which leaves 8 spots to be filled - 7 on time, and 1 for the Past Champions Provisional.

Vickers ended practice 7th fastest but AJ was only 48th fastest.
Both Red Bull drivers had a good draw for qualifying: AJ (42nd) Brian (44th)

I got home today and saw the practice speeds and the good qualifying draw and got real excited. I'm anxiously waiting for Brian and AJ to go out.
