Bunch of Rookies!

This season AJ is participating in the Raybestos Rookie of the Year program, which sees him competing against another very strong class of rookies. Let's size up his competition... (from L to R) David Reutimann comes from the Truck series where he finished 3rd in the 2006 season ; Juan Pablo Montoya hails from Formula One, and also has a CART championship and an Indianapolis 500 win to his name; Brandon Whitt comes from the Truck series and won a race in 2005; AJ of course comes from Champ Car where he won 5 times in the 2006 season; David Ragan has a strong stock car background, having raced in ARCA, Busch and Trucks; and Paul Menard, who finished 6th in the Busch series standings in 2006.

The point system in the ROTY program is a little different than the regular NASCAR points system. Only the best 17 race finishes are counted at the end of the year... which really works in AJ's favor as the team works through the beginning-of-the-year 'learning curve.'

Who do you think will take ROTY honors this year?

I'm interested to see how AJ does on the road courses. If he does well, he should do well at Pocono too, and he might have a shot at some top 5s. I think he'll finish 3rd in ROY though, behind Montoya and Ragan. I want to see AJ do well this year!

Not sure I agree on the rookie race--I think Menard is gonna be pretty good and will be fighting for ROTY with Ragan. I don't have so much confindence in Montoya---AJ will still be 3rd. Just my opinion. :)

Montoya has got to be the favorite. The most experianced driver with an established team. But AJA is gonna suprise em!

I think AJ will do pretty good..would love to see him get ROTY. I think it'll be close between him and Menard.

Ragan and Menard will be the toughest to beat, but once AJ has some time in the seat and starts to get these cars figured out he will give them a run for their money. Thats where the 17 best races will favor him. With this way of deciding ROTY he will get the beginning of the season to learn.

I have a feeling Montoya will win it, with Reutimann second, Ragan third, Allmendinger fourth, Menard fifth, and Whitt a distant sixth (since his team does not have sponsorship to run the full season).

I hope AJ proves my prediction wrong, but as of right now, that is what I think.

Montoya is the favorite, but I have a feeling after a couple of weeks on the road, he will start to get worn down.

I'd love to see AJ win ROTY but if he can't, I'm cheering for Paul Menard.

I wouldn't be suprised at all of AJ does really well. After he gets used to this series he should do well. But the competition this year is tough, JPM has learning t do as well, but Chip has the team really good this season. It's a toss up between a few of them, but AJ should do really well.
