Speed To Race '08 ARCA Season

Team Red Bull formally announces an agreement with former Formula 1 Scuderia Toro Rosso driver Scott Speed to race the No. 2 Red Bull Toyota Camry with Eddie Sharp Racing for the 2008 ARCA Re/MAX Series Season. Red Bull may consider occasional opportunities for Speed in NASCAR as the 2008 season progresses.

From Scott's Mouth...“I’m really excited to race ARCA because it’s an opportunity to learn a completely new animal for me - stock car racing - without being put under a huge spotlight. One of the great things about ARCA is that you have a whole field full of young guys like me just trying to make a name in this sport. It’s hard to judge the level of competition I’ll face next year, but that’s just part of the fun.”

Glad to hear Speed will be getting some experience before throwing him into cup racing.

I see that BV will qualify 19th again this week and AJ will be 34th.
Good luck TRB!!!

Looking at the first practice speeds the go or go home cars must be doing single car runs. They are all groped together at the bottom of the pack with BV 40th fastest ( 6th of the go homers) and AJ 46th. It will be interesting to see how they can improve on their second practice.

Hoping the second practice session goes better - AJ needs to find some more speed. Neither one is fast enough for comfort!! Good Luck guys - we are behind you 100%.

I don't want to jinx Speed but so far so good half way through. It would be nice to see him in the top ten even though it’s an ARCA race. GO TRB!

Good Job SS! Seventh place finish your first time out is great. Speed may be a rookie in this type of racing but he has probably more experience “RACING” than half the field in this race.

What crap. I'm happy that Vickers makes it, but I wanted AJ in as well; so what gives there? Can someone please give me an explanation? :(

I hope BV isn't total crap to start the race. When the top 11 speeds are go or go homers, you know they are going for straight qualifying setup on a impound race. Hopefully they can get an early caution and change springs or something to be competitive.

Heartbreaking - qualify 9th fastest for this race and you have to load up and go home. Nascar has to seriously look at their procedures. These guys work to hard for this. :(

Great job today Brian and the 83 crew. Can't wait to see you in action at Dega!!!

I hate it that AJ missed this race. NASCAR has got to do something about this. It's just wrong.

Not much you can change on the COT superspeedway cars. Just hope the motor runs all day (or until the big one) Lets be positive about starting 3rd and not look to find all the possible problems.

Qualifying 9th on speed but still going home must be a new record. How can NASCAR call it racing?

9th place and they send you packing- dont know of any other racing series in the world that qualifies this way. Extremely unfair to all all involved. They were saying the top 35 cars never even put a qualifying set up on their cars during practice. How is this racing? They keep talking about losing ratings - maybe if people had to watch to see if their driver actually made the race they would get more people watching. There are other ways to make sure their top drivers and sponsors get in if they have a bad run. Penalizing the smaller teams is not the right way to do this!!!
Sorry for AJ - this really sucks.

I used to be a Team Red Bull fan, but this is crap. I know this website and blog is all biased toward BV and everyone is satisfied with him getting in the race and thats the most important thing in everyones opinion, but this sucks. AJ and the 84 team are working their asses off and no one cares cause the 83 team got in. They dont get the credit they deserve. Also everyone has this Scott Speed fetish now since he finished a fantastic 7th in an ARCA race. I am sure you are all ready to move him right into cup and take over the 84 right? So I just feel bad for everyone associated with the 84 team and wish someone truly cared about what they are going thru. So great for BV and all of his fans. Good riddens.

Dude, get a grip. Me and a number of other posters have been BV fans for YEARS. I root for AJA and the 84 team too, but I am a BV fan first. And no, I have no desire to see SS take AJ's seat. So get a grip, we are not all happy that half of TRB is going home. But I have been a BV fan longer than TRB has been around.

Blogger Mileeta said...

Seriously, you think that people are happy that AJ is going home? NOBODY is happy about that! Our drivers are part of a team, and that's that! AJ put forth one hell of a run, and was the 9th fastest guy to qualify, but NASCAR has some ridiculous rules ICO the top 35, and because of that he got screwed. There's not much that we can do about it though, and that's why I think everyone is so positive for BV. Good luck tomorrow TRB!

5:14 PM

Scott Speed? Are you kidding me - so he finished 7th in an Arca race. The 84 has had to work so hard to get where they are now. BV has much more experience than AJ, and he has come along so much this year. Its Nascars fault that the 84 team is not in the race tomorrow with their stupid rules, not AJs nor anybody else on the team. Go AJ!

Sorry to hear AJ isn't in this race but at least Brian is. Last week both were out. I was at that race and I can tell you how dishearten it was not to have a TRB driver to cheer on! We are excited for the small victories.

Getting back to someone’s post about how they will do once the race starts, well I was on the Blaney Message Board (pretty interesting posts) and someone posted this:

“Talladega historically is not a handling track. From what I heard is that Toyota has figured out something with the COT and the restrictor plate tracks that most teams cannot figure out. So I would look for the Toyotas to be strong all day. As long as the engines hold up and they stay out of trouble this could easily be a first win for a Toyota”

I don’t know by what authority this person has this knowledge at least it sounds encouraging. Just looking for something to hang my hat on!

I have a little story.

Last year when BV won this race I was at the Pumpkin Festival (craft show my grandparents do every year). Well, I was there today and BV qualifies 3rd. My grandparents are in the exact same spot as they were last year. This is a lucky spot for Brian! ;) I'll be there all day tomorrow listenin to my radio and cheerin for BV!

I'm so excited and cant wait for tomorrow's race. Good luck Brian!

It does suck that AJ didnt get in though! I would have loved to of seen him racin too!

AJ should seriuosly be in the race tomorrow but it all comes back the DUMP NASCAR rules about the top 35. AJ and BV have BOTH been bitten by the DUMP rules this season so I quit counting after the fourth time. AJ and TRB period have worked way to hard this season for this to keep happening to them. SO NASCAR needs to wake up an change the Top 35 Rule for next season. US Team Red Bull fans are just happy to get one car in each then we become extremly happy when both BV and AJ make the race.AJ and BV will be blowing away the field next season starting at Daytona.

I know that I just as happy to have BV racin tomorrow but I much rather have both AJ and BV racin tomorrow. Like the person above me said it today was a much differnt qualifing result were at least we have one Bull in the show compared to none.I would much rather be routing for one Bull then none at all like I had to do last week. But I still had fun.

Good Luck tomorrow BV and the 83 crew.

We have Wingzs and WE BELIEVE!

AJ: Go Get'em Next Week in Charlotte. Yes Sexy is back in NASCAR with Team Red Bull having in my opinion the two Sexiest Drivers out their period.

BV and the 83 Crew: This is are race to WIN tomorrow. Go get Cup Career win #2 BV. And please bring home Toyota's First Career Cup WIN tomorrow Team Red Bull. I'm smelling Victory BV.

I was watching Trackside on Speed and Kyle Petty said that he was impressed with the Toyota's during practice and qualifying and he wouldn't be surprised if a Toyota gets the first win of the season.

I just hope its Brian and TRB! Good luck tomorrow.

I do know how hard the 84 team works and how totally devastated they are when they dont make it in. But the team stands by each other, then on Monday they get up and start working at it again. AJ has alot of fans behind him, maybe we just dont happen to posting here on the blog. So to the 84 team- keep up your hard work, it will pay off in the end and dont stop believing in each other!

I would expect to see some changes in the qualifying procedures next year, after this race. This result makes NASCAR look terrible.

I personally liked the old provisional system, but if we aren't going to have it or something like it, I would like to see a secured spot for the top 35 cars in owners points limited to the top 25 cars and see all the cars outside the top 25 qualify together.

I've seen a lot of proposed changes to the chase system, but I really, really hate it. I forget which reporter suggested it a few years ago, but I love the idea of not issuing points below 20th place, and awarding substantially more points for a win, similar to an F1 style points system.

What do you all think? What should the points system be going forward?

Ahhhhh! It's raceday! Hooray! I'm so excited for the engines to roar in a few hours. Despite the fact that we're starting third, the only thing I'm worried about is getting around Mikey before he causes "The Big One."

Man, sometimes I think people need to consider a Valium before they post comments on this blog.

Despite the 84 going home (which is insanely stupid and proof that Nascar needs to do something about this qualifying format), it hasn't been a bad weekend so far for TRB. There's nothing to be ashamed of in qualifying 9th.

And while I don't want to see Scott Speed thrown into Nascar too soon (and definitely not in the 84), he really surprised me with the 7th place finish. Nice work, TRB.

So today was good and bad:
the wreck and tranny issues BAD
the speed and running up front GOOD

I'm excite about Brian, TRB, and 2008...they really showed their stuff today...and realistically, Brian could have been caught up in that wreck even if he didn't have the tranny issues, BLab was 5th...It just wasn't meant to be today...Still a great effort by the guyz! I'm so proud to be a Brian/TRB fan! Y'all ROCK! :D

BETTER Luck @ Charlotte!!!

MRN made it sound like the tranny issue was due to BV grabbing the wrong gear during the green flag pit stops so at least they know what caused the issue verses something completely random happening like in some of the races.
