The Speed Report
Scott Speed got his first taste of stock car racing in an ARCA test at Talladega yesterday. Here’s what the newest addition to our stock car stable had to say…
Describe your first day of testing.
“The banking here is pretty incredible and intimidating. Having never sat in a stock car and to just go out there and run the first lap flat against the wall – I’d be lying if I said that was easy! That took a bit of bravery. The banking here is just super.”
What surprised you the most from today’s test?
“The most surprising thing is that I just don’t dress like these people yet (sarcastic). I got harassed by some of the ARCA officials for my shorts – which I wasn’t supposed to be wearing in the garage – and for my hat because it’s what Europe would call high fashion, but I guess it’s not considered that here.” *Check out Scott’s hat in this photo!
What’s the biggest challenge you’ll face in your first ARCA race next week?
“It will be so intense to race here. You’re just hauling ass because it’s so fast. It’s not going to be easy to throw that thing into a corner at 170 mph. I have to learn how to draft and how to race these cars too. Learning how to run so close together with so many guys will be wild!”

Sounds like Red Bull will be fixing a car after the ARCA race. Good luck Scott!
Not to worry the fab guys are well quailfied in fixing wadded up cars.
I can't wait to see Scott take to the high banks of Talladega Superspeedway. Wow, I can't believe I'll be there in less than 8 days.
By the way, who cares what's on his hat? He brings style to the ARCA series. Have you seen some of them old men. LOL!
Looks like Scott needs to read the Garage Handbook before stepping back in. Shorts in the garage? Are you crazy!
He sounds scared and that other team better start on a new chassis cause that one he's going to USE up in the race is not long for this world--- PLUS should'nt you know to have respect when u go to someone else's house, now MAYBE just maybe if you where F-1 something not just a also ran they {officals} might cut u some slack but why not just earn it!!!
Ok, who makes the hat? I thought Ed Hardy at first but I think I'm wrong.
The ARCA race will definitely be interesting!
If it works for Scott go for it, isn't the Red Bull style different to begin with? Of course he'll wreck a car or two, who hasn't?
Are you listening to yourselves? Scott Speed raced at the pinnacle of motorsport. I know that the majority of you can't afford cable so you probably have never seen an F1 GP, but let me tell you it takes a lot more skill to pilot an F1 car around a track then a rickty old ARCA car. Let's remember too that at least Scott qualified for every race this year and was the first American since Michael Andretti to race in F1.
You better hold on because SS is going to bring it in ARCA and the Sprint Cup when he replaces AJ!
