Rain, Rain, Go Away

It rained, then rained harder, then rained some more, and then just kept on raining. The NASCAR gods sure are doing a stellar job of challenging TRB to get into their first Cup race. First, the team was nudged out of a qualifying spot at Charlotte - now they’re saying buh-bye to Atlanta in a washed out qualifying session. Score: NASCAR Gods = 2, TRB = 0. But have no fear, the Bulls aren’t backing down. AJ’s big Cup debut will still come – it’ll just be at Texas. Consider him fashionably late. On a dryer note, the media still got a few words and a few good laughs with the self-proclaimed “The M-Man” (not just “The Man”) in TRB’s morning press conference.

I may have been the only one that saw this coming, but removing Elliott from a scheduled ride was a bad idea. Elliott=1, RBR=0

I believe this lineup describes it all:

36 37 Bill Elliott
37 45 Kyle Petty
38 32 Travis Kvapil
39 55 Michael Waltrip
40 4 Todd Bodine
41 49 Mike Bliss
42 61 Kevin Lepage
43 178 Kenny Wallace

Did not Qualify
44 74 Derrike Cope
45 27 Kirk Shelmerdine
46 72 Mike Skinner
47 84 A J Allmendinger Dodge Red Bull

TRB was looking to get their feet wet for the first time, but not in the form of Georgia rains

Hey TRB--
Pulling Elliot was a bad idea-Get used to it this is the situation you w/be in next year with a rookie w/no nascar experience

Here's the $25,000 question. What does AJ stand for?

I really think that Brian will be okay. He's generally a decent qualifier.

Oh, and, just because I can, and because there isn't any other one, this might work better than conversing in their comments, a friend and I set up an unofficial board for RBR:

You people upset the Elliot wasn't in the car...They hired AJ for next year, why not get him going right away? Obviously Elliot wasn't interested in a full season deal so....I don't understand the anger. You still got to see Bill race.

It's not just about Bill not racing. He did race. The problem was that TRB did not race. IMO it was a bad move to pull Elliott b/c for the 2nd wek TRB didn't even see the track. It is more than just getting the driver ready, a team needs to experience race conditions as well. They gave away a guaranteed spot for a chance on an unproven rookie. And we were lucky to see Bill race. He went out and found a ride so his fans who bought tickets wouldn't be disappointed.
