Back To Daytona

Well the moment a lot of you Red Bull Racing fans have been waiting for has arrived... the cars are back on track! AJ and the No. 84 team began their first official test of the 2008 season today at Daytona International Speedway. Right off the bat, both the 84A and 84B cars jumped into the top 10... and that is where they stayed the rest of the day. AJ said he is happy with both cars and comfortable on track - and that is evident.

When asked what was the best holiday gift he received? AJ's answer: “So far, it looks like a competitive car at Daytona. We weren’t bad this morning. Our guys did a lot of work to get the bodies right in the off-season and Toyota has stepped up their game. It’s a combination of everything. We’re only three hours in to a long process, but last year at this time, I don’t think we were ahead of anyone after the first session. We’ve definitely had a better start and that gives us something to build on.”

Sounds good to us!

Here is how the 84 stacked up in today's sessions:

Morning
1. 48A, Jimmie Johnson, 48.706
2. 5B, Casey Mears, 48.761
3. 5A, Casey Mears, 49.027
4. Jacques Villeneuve, 49.092
5. 84B, AJ Allmendinger, 49.101
6. 84A, AJ Allmendinger, 49.167

Afternoon
1. 48A, Jimmie Johnson, 48.735
2. 5B, Casey Mears, 48.852
3. 5A, Casey Mears, 48.891
4. 18, Kyle Busch, 48.896
5. 84B, AJ Allmendinger, 48.918
12. 84A, AJ Allmendinger, 49.122

The No. 84 will continue testing through Wednesday. Brian and the No. 83 team will test next Monday through Wednesday.

Looking good so far, but single car times don't mean much. Obviously for the situation TRB is in, where they need to time into the field, it means more. However, with this being the Daytona 500, you race your way into the race. Hope to hear good reports about the cars handle in tomorrow afternoon's draft session.

keep tearing it up guys, and soon we'll be flirting with the pole.

This is going to be COMPLETELY off topic...

Ok, this is probably not the place or time, but still...
Every time I go the the Red Bull site, it has a merchandise button, and I keep clicking on the damn thing, because most of the time it is the sweatshirt I want...and then it sends me to nascar.com, and I end up in nascar.com hell, and they don't have the damn shirt...

I'm getting a tad frustrated here..

You keep showing merchandise that we cannot buy..either make it available or knock it off.

How can you be slower in drafting runs than you are in single car runs? Confused!!

For the hoodie go to BrianVickers.com and go to his store he has it in there.

About the slower speeds, manybe AJ did not go out in the pack and just practiced more on qualifying runs.

True - didnt think about that. Could be more focused on the qualifying aspect of things.

About the merchandise...I think the reason you can't find any right now is because they are changing the name on all of it. It will be Red Bull Racing and not Team Red Bull. My guess any way.

Where did you get the Red Bull Racing (RBR) thing? Also, Matador, Racing Bull, or whoever...
About 3/4 of the way through the 2007 season, you guys posted about new merchandise being created for the 2008 season. Most of us had to struggle for the first couple months of 2007 without any RED BULL stuff to wear. Please tell me that that's not going to be the case again this year. When will the 2008 TRB stuff be ready? Will I be able to buy it, and have it in my posestion, by the time that the 500 is run? For all of us, PLEASE ANSWER!!!

Medador,Racing Bull and whoever else, Yes I was just wondering why toyotamotorsports.com store didn't have BV's or AJ's names listed under the store.I was just a little curious. Thanks

Awesome way to start the 2008 season with the speeds.
