Study Up: It's Pop Quiz Time

Get your No. 2 pencils and Scantron sheets ready, because you’ve just been hit with a true-or-false pop quiz on Watkins Glen International, which happens to be Red Bull Racing’s next stop on the Nextel Cup circuit (see answers below):

1. Watkins Glen is known simply as “The Glen.”
2. Watkins Glen uses the same configuration for its Nextel Cup and IRL IndyCar Series races.
3. Watkins Glen is the only track on the Nextel Cup schedule where cars pit to the right.
4. Bobby Labonte won three straight Busch Series races from 1995-1997.
5. A series of four quick turns — turns five, six, seven and eight — along the backstretch is known as the outer loop.
6. Jeff Gordon owns the fastest qualifying lap in a stock car.
7. The longest professional race at Watkins Glen lasts six hours.
8. For 20 years, Watkins Glen was the home of the United States Grand Prix.
9. A man named Watkins Glen drew up the plans for a 6.6-mile course that hosted the first race in 1948.
10. Brian Vickers, Red Bull Racing’s driver of the No. 83, has never finished in the top 10 in his three visits to Watkins Glen.

Answers: 1. True; 2. False (long/grand prix course, 3.4 miles; short/NASCAR course, 2.45 miles); 3. True; 4. False (Terry Labonte); 5. False (inner loop); 6. True (124.580 mph in 2003); 7. True (Grand Am’s Six Hours at The Glen); 8. True (1961-1980); 9. False (Cameron Argetsinger); 10. False (BV finished eighth in 2005).

I only missed one. I didn't know #9. Thank you for the quiz. It would be awesome if we could get one of these for each race on the circuit. Have a great week. Let's get ready for The Glen

I have to be honest. I don’t understand the dissension in the ranks. We’re just spectators and fans. That hardly gives us the right to know all of the insides off the companies business.

I’m sure if anyone of us wants to put up a couple million and invest in Team RedBull they might be allowed the opportunity of getting first hand information.

If you cant do that, the least you can do is be supportive.

I'm actually more disturbed at the rumor that TRB might be switching to Chevys next year. Executives seemingly get switched around all the time so that's not really a huge deal to me but I'm not sure how I'd feel about a manufacturer change (actually I'm pretty sure I'd hate it, as I'm a pretty diehard Toyota fan)

As long as BV doesn't ever lose his crew chief, I don't particularly care who gets moved or leaves.

Is everyone in stunned silence or what?

The multi-millionaires in the organization will carry on. I worry more about the no-names in assembly, engine, and the fab and paint shops who make them look good but struggle to make the house payment. Hopefully they are under the radar screen.

If I hear anything about the atmosphere inside the place from the guys at the BP station, who have not been wrong yet, I'll pass it along if the site censors allow it.

I sure hope things settle down.....

Im with you Krystle. As long as we have Vickers, Richert, and Red Bull together I am happy

Ice, I agree with you completely. Also, turmoil at any level of the organization takes focus off the task at hand.

What did TRB think would happen the first season out? Dominance? It’s a hard sport to be at the top, just look at any driver or team. Look at Jr. he didn’t make the chase last year and he is on the bubble this year driving a Chevy.
I think it would be a mistake to leave Toyota. Look at the truck series and now a win with a couple top five’s in the Bush series the first year there. Toyota is in for the long haul. I think TRB should be. They could go into the record books as the first Toyota win in the Cup series (with BV)if they are patient, maybe not this year but a good possibility for next year.

Turmoil is terrible! I'm really concerned about them switching to Chevy, is that what the turmoil was you think? I wonder who will run the place now. Hopefully they will put this behind them and focus on RACING!!!

I have a question...DO all the other manufacturers run the same engine in the Nextel Cup and Truck Series?

Because in the beginning of the season I heard that Toyota wasnt allowed to use the same engine as the trucks and had to build a completely new one, WHY?

I think we all need to relax. I am curious why Marty left and the "difference in philosophy" but I am just a fan and it is really none of my business. I am more concerned that the team, as a whole, is unified and heading in the same direction. As for the Chevy rumors, I think we should just wait and see. I personally don't believe it- but if it did happen, they know more than us. Myself, I am getting sick of seeing TRD cars in the pits with the hood up but I beliveve it is just growing pains. Plus, I just bought a barand new blue Camry! They can't switch! :-)

I just got a bulletin from Team Red Bull on my myspace and it said that TRB is not signing with cheverolet and they hope to resign with Toyota after there contract runs out in 2009!

So the rumor isnt true

ok. keep this to your selves... TRB is going to sign with Honda for motors and support. Nicky Haden will be the new driver. The Honda guys just told me so while they filled up their hybrids...shhhh

I would be shocked if they went to Chevy. it wouldnt make any sense, they would essentially be completely starting over and wasting all of 2007. So I don't see that happening.
Still shocked about Marty though.. totally didn;t see that one coming.

The same engine is used for Cup, Busch, and Truck except for the Toyota engines. Next year the Toyota Trucks and Busch cars have to start using the Cup engines. Nascar was letting use up their stock this year.

I would be shocked if they went Chevy, seems like they're the best all around Toyota team and with time they will all get better. I was shocked about Marty too, are more people going to get fired there now? Does anyone know where Marty is going? Like you said, its sad for the shop mechanics who don't know whats going on. I heard it came out of left field. But our guys are tough, they will figure it out! Hopefully this weekend at The Glen!

I DONT KNOW A LOT ABOUT MARTY, BUT I HEARD HE WAS A VERY SMART MAN. I DONT THINK ITS THE TEAMS FAULT THE CARS ARE NOT RUNNING WELL. I THINK THEY NEED MORE MOTOR. JUST MY OPINION. YALL DONT HAVE TO GET UPSET. JUST MY OPINION. BUT WHEN A TEAM STARTS BREAKING DOWN, IT CANT BE GOOD

Things are NOT going well at TRB.
Is there a site/forum where we can communicate w/out being censored?

Here's an idea, how about everyone quit pretending that they know what is going on at Team Red Bull. We all can speculate and talk about what we've seen on Jayski, but until we hear they TRB is going to Chevy, I am not believing anything. Let's keep this blog open to positive vibes. Brian, AJ, their teams, and their families deserve that much! Even if they do switch makes(which I'm highly doubting) we are all going to support them. Who cares what they drive! I just want to be able to see Brian and AJ in the race. I'd love to know more about the tire test at Lowe's Motor Speedway. I saw that Brian was there.

I will support the team if they change to chevy. dont own a chevy drive a ford. as long as the 83 gets to run up front i would support them. not doggin the toyotas. the tundra is a nice truck. just dont think their motors are strong enough to run in the front.but i am still hoping the team will come alive.

DOES ANYONE LISTEN TO ME>>>> TEAM RED BULL DID ANNOUNCE THEY ARENT GOING TO CHEVY

TRB HAS AN OFFICIAL MYSPACE THEY POSTED A BULLETIN SAYING THE RUMOR WAS FALSE AND THAT THEY WANTED TO SIGN WITH TOYOTA AGAIN ONCE THERE CONTRACT RAN OUT IN 2009!!!

HERE IS THE BULLETIN
A rumor appeared on a "rumor website" saying that we are switching to Chevrolet but as you may expect that is false and are not considering leaving Toyota and hope to resign with them after our contract runs out in 2009.

Thank You
-Team Red Bull
