NASCAR '08

Even though AJ missed today's race, he has been making the most of his time here and went to all his scheduled appearances this morning. One of them was the EA Sports/NEXTEL launch of the new NASCAR '08 game for PlayStation 3. AJ was joined by Reed Sorenson and Greg Biffle. The guys had some fun with each other as they played the qualifying part of the game against each other. Even though Reed is on pole for today's race at the Brickyard, he wasn't able to grab the pole in the video game!

As they left, each guy was given a copy of the game, which they were all pumped about. The cool thing about this new version of the game is it includes both Red Bull cars. And they look just like the real thing. AJ and race engineer Phil have already broken out the game and started driving the No. 84 around IMS.

Tune in to ESPN at 2:00 pm today to see Brian and the No. 83 car in action. AJ will be around to root them on, too!

I picked up NASCAR 08 the other day and the first thing someone asked me when I went online for a race was "Why are you using the 84 car?" Ah well.

On a slightly unrelated note, it was great to see Dave Blaney get a top-10 finish today, which I believe will put him in the top 35 in owner's points, so it has been a great weekend for Toyota; first Busch win, and finally getting one of their cars locked into the show.

Great job today guys...closed the gap a bit on the top 35, and had a nice solid day.

By my calculations, the #22 car is now the 35th car in owners points after this race, with 1,434 owners points. The #83 team has 1,185 owners points, which is a differential of 249 points. The #83 team would also have to pass the #21 and #10 teams, which after this race have 1,397 and 1,312 points, respectively.

So, to get in the top 35, over the next 16 races, the #83 team just has to gain 14 points each race on the #22 team.

Further, of the next 16 tracks, 13 are repeat visits this year. Of those 13, the #83 team made 8 races(California, Atlanta, Bristol, Texas, Charlotte, Dover, Pocono, and Michigan), and earned 4 top 15 finishes. If he can manage to earn similar finishes in those tracks, and improve on the near misses at Phoenix and Talledega, I think the #83 team can go into Daytona with a guaranteed spot in the top 35. This whole merger with Ginn Racing and DEI has been a gift, and could greatly help the #83 team this year.

Wow Nathan... Good job #83 team. Top 20's are good results for a first year team, keep up the hard work.

NASCAR 08 is great on PS3.

Good job today. The car wasn't very fast but they did what they had to do to get a decent finish. Let's hope they can repeat their qualifying effort from Pocono in June but have a little better car next Sunday.

on brianvickers.com it said that he was having battery issues, they didnt even think they could make it to the end, and at one point they thought that they had lost the engine

The did have a battery issue for about half the race. The finally changed it on the last caution or second to last caution b/c BV was flipping between the two batteries every two laps.

AJ, way to drive the "heck" out of the 84 in your qual run, it will come. Certainly more difficult when you've only been able to do 20 laps at that track in any type of car, (the hardest race track of the year)! If it were easy, everyone would be doing it. Back to tracks you've been to now, and have more experience to call upon. Keep diggin!! And don't lift! Let it come to you.
