Keeping His Chin Up
The Dinger had nothing to smile about after his No. 84 spent most of Sunday's race in the garage and not on the track, but when he finally got back out, he made sure his Bull Crew was smiling...
AJ: "Do you guys think we'll be able to get the Lucky Dog?"
Crew: "You're going to need it about 62 times."
AJ: "Do you think NASCAR would be mad if I just turned off and ran the bus stop?" (The bus stop is part of the road course at Daytona!)
AJ: On each restart "This is it guys. I'm really going to put the hammer down now. Tell the guys ahead of me that I'm coming for them!"
AJ: "I see the crowd standing up. Let me guess. Junior took the lead, right?"
AJ: "Do you guys have something to eat there in the pit? After working so hard on my car, you've gotta be hungry."
Crew: "Yes, they have sandwiches."
AJ: "Phew. I was worried. I don't want my guys going hungry!"

AJ keep your chin you will be in the Top 35 sooner then later before you know it. Sooner or later the luck will return to you and the 84 team and you will be rollin again with the top10 and 15 finishes. Good Luck this weekend in Chicago. "NEver Give Up"
We Believe in you and the 84 team. Keep diggin and you will get their SEXY IS Back
AJ's dedication to his crew is one of the things I love about him. I was glad to hear him on the radio trying to keep everyone's spirits up. I especially loved when he said that he was driving one handed. Then Timmy told him that Jon Wood was driving with his knees. I was cracking up during what was one of the worst races I've ever seen, considering that I'm a 19 and 5 fan also.
There was also something about pancakes and eggs and fried Spam, but I missed some of that exchange since I was listening to BV at the same time and he talks ... a lot.
Glad you can laugh about the race AJ, (or smile) your time is coming.....we'll wait if you can wait. Keep going strong and you'll be in the top 35, after that, you'll just keep moving up in points.
We all believe......:)
We know you are a great driver.
lol that was pretty funny.
Vickers is up to 15th in points after Truex was penalized 150 pts
That's great. One less team to battle.
I too was cracking up during the race when AJ was talking. I think he had to grab the wheel with both hands at one point because of one of the huge wrecks but then he said he was back to one handed LOL.
I know this blog post is about AJ, but I want to take a post here and just pour my heart out for the 83 team and Brian Vickers. It was Daytona Speedweeks one year ago where I gave up on my current driver Matt Kenseth, who was caught drilling speed holes, and picked up where I left off with him with my then second favorite driver - Brian Vickers.
It was a tough year. Maybe the toughest I've endured as a fan of sports in my life. I'm only 25, but I've generally had good luck in picking drivers, but last year was not one of them. Sure, there were spurts of greatness peaked in between absolute let downs. I know there are members of this blog who endured the tough times with me. Last October's Charlotte race debacle comes to mind.
2008 had the same look as the start of the 2007 season. As we were still mired outside the top 35 in owner points. Every member here, like myself, lived and died on Fridays (some fans here still do). After the 5 race period, and we were in, I was absolutely ecstatic. To know I was 100% sure I was going to see the 83 team week in and week out was a huge relief, and more importantly, to know that (most likely) I'd get to see them at my home track, Kansas Speedway, was an amazing feeling.
Now here we are, 8 races until the chase and we're a little over 100 points out of 12th. I've been a pretty huge critic here at the blog about elevated expectations with the 83 and 84 teams. I can say that I'm extremely proud to carry the Red Bull colors and be a Brian Vickers fan. The leaps and bounds the team has taken in the last year alone are an amazing testament to hard work, dedication, and never settling for less than the best.
I cannot wait to see the 83 in Victory Lane, wherever it may be (I have the 2nd Mich date circled on my calendar) and I hope that everyone who endured last year with me, and everyone else here on this blog appreciates what they have done in one year's time as well.
With the work ethic and team building in place, I have no doubt the 84 team will be in the Top 35 in no time, sometimes it just takes awhile to get going.
Nicely said Nomar. I know what you you went through last year too. I too live in Kansas City and I'm stoked about Kansas already and have been sice race five.An I'm also stoked about Charlotte this year even more that my parents will fill the experience that I got last year except one will be diffenernt at both tracks BV will be racing this time around.
BV will also be racing in the Nationwide Series in Kansas, driving the ABF #32 Toyota. Sweet deal for you two.
whats the chance we can get AJ into ganssi's nationwide ride since dario doesnt want it?
Not sure where you got your info that Dario does not want the ride because he was just added to the Chicago entry list and if Dario does turn down the Nationwide ride I'm sure they will put Bryan Clauson in there full-time.
There's not much you can learn from Nationwide that you can transfer over to Cup.
what a world of difference if you listen to vickers vs allmendinger. vickers does nothing but complain on his radio, and aj just encourages his crew, even when he has every right to be mad at them for mechanical mistakes. says a lot about the character of these drivers. we're rooting for you this weekend aj!
Maybe that's also why the #83 is running better than the #84? Oh snap, what now.
lol
