Burning Up At Bristol

Brian was on the hot seat — literally — at Bristol.
His Team Red Bull Toyota encountered an exhaust problem that leaked fumes and heat into the cockpit, and as Brian grew hotter and hotter the No. 83 team tried to slip some padding atop his burning seat and floorboard. Ice helped cool him off, too, and waiting for him after 504 long laps was fresh oxygen and a precautionary visit to the care center. But, like the trooper he is, Brian picked up five crucial bonus points for leading a lap and finished on the lead circuit in 15th.
And then there was AJ's first Nextel Cup race. His No. 84 spent 80 or so laps in the garage while right-side damage was repaired. AJ returned and was running at the finish in 40th.

All in all a good weekend for TRB. Steady progress is what it's going to take. The hard work and strong will are no doubt going to pay off.

Hey, haven't you guys heard that driving a hybrid is a sign of intelligence?! (And as a Prius owner, I'm completely unbiased...)

Nice work at Bristol!

We were listening to it on the scanner. Just felt so bad for him. Please let us know how he is doing. Hopefully he can take it easy, ice his rear, and just call it a night.

It was a great race for the 83. He led a lap, got 5 points, and had a solid Top 15 finish. Way to go Brian and the entire 83 team.

I was listening to Brian on the scanner today, and he really pulled through like a trooper. Today was definitely all about team work, and all of the Red Bull guys did an amazing job! Keep up the great effort guys :]

Both cars were in the race and both cars finished (maybe not on the lead lap but finished non-the-less). Just keep plugging guys, slowly but surely things are improving. Great job today!

lol, Prius, that's hillarious. anyways Dawn's right, great job #83 team. leading that lap makes it feel like a 10th place for me, eventhough i know it doesn't credit as much points, but hey it's their 3rd race so i'll take it ;)

Nice job to all of the Red Bull boys. A top 15 for this Bristol race is very solid and is one step closer to getting in the top 35.

first of all, brian doesn't have a prius, he has a lexus hybrid. second of all, it wouldn't kill some of you guys to take a little interest in our environment. i don't care what everyone says brian, you drive any hybrid you want, just as long as you drive that camry into victory lane!! great job today -- as usual!! seriously, did toyota only give you the good cars or are you the only one that can drive??

OMG! Stay on subject guys, and that is that TRB rocked at Bristol! I had such a blast in the stands watching and cheering (Yes, I was the only one in my section), but I was fully decked in all my new RED BULL gear that I got at the souvenir trailer and PROUD! WTG!!

Can't wait for next week. Nice work guys. ALL of you.

Way to be there when the checkered flag waved AJ. Great job TRB getting him back to log some laps. By the way, AJ's ahead of Michael Waltrip in points. I think that's hilarious.

Shut up and Race: What kind of goodies did you see at the Red Bull Trailer?

AJ you did a great job for your first race!!! You stayed out there with the big boys, and showed them that you can be out there without taking out half the field. Hopefully that earns you some respect among the drivers. It was great to see so many drivers wishing you good luck and offering their advice. They really want you here! Keep up the momentum, one down and lots to go....but now you've got a start. Best of luck next weekend.

Congratulations AJ on finishing your first race - great job by your crew to get you back out there so you could take the checkered flag! Now lets do it again next week!!!!

Anonymous, I agree. AJ learned a lot by running over 400 of the 500 laps. Good experience. Same goes for the team. Good job getting AJ back out on the track. Saw the pit crew stretching on the SPEED pre-race show while AJ was being interviewed. AJ mentioned the guys were quite "hairy" after the DNQ's and had finally shaved. Got any pictures of the scrufty crew? Keep the positive attitude and good luck next week.

To Answer Anon: The trailer wasn't fully decked like the others yet, but they had enough to offer! Hats, both t-shirts and long sleeve shirts, several styles of ladies shirts, license plates & license plate holders, key chains, pub-type sign, etc. They said they are expecting more variety to arrive any day!

For those people who don't think racecar drivers aren't athletes--go attempt to do what Brian acomplished yesterday. It amazes me how they can drive 500 laps under any conditions let alone when you're burning up! Brian, I'm in awe! You did an outstanding job. Good luck on Friday!!

Anyone catch the Boris Said interview on "Nascar Now" on ESPN? He said the exhaust problem was not a problem of the COT car but was the 84 team's fault. Then the next question was about CO2 problems that a lot of driver's experienced and he said that that is something they need to correct on the COT. That guy is such a hypocrite. I'm glad he switched to being an announcer he wasn't much of a driver.
